Beautiful satin panel embroidered with oxidized silver thread, predominantly grey, depicting birds in an exotic landscape framed by a geometric design based on themes of antiquity. This could be a woven panel for a luxurious fireplace. Early 19th century, in a Louis XVI style giltwood frame carved with pearls and hearts. Approximately 80 x 65 cm The decoration of our panel can be compared to the work of Philippe de La Salle (1723-1804), ornamentalist and pattern designer for silk weaving, known for his brilliantly designed floral, bird and arabesque designs executed. Unfortunately Philippe de La Salle never appears in the official commissions of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne. See Lyon Textile Museum.
