18th Century, Pair of Rococo Italian Lacquered and Gilt Wood Armchairs
Measures: cm W 67 x D 73 x H 106,5. H sitting 45 cm
The elegant pair of armchairs was made in Genoa, Italy, around the middle of the eighteenth century, Rococo period.
Each armchair is in lacquered wood in shades of ochre, gilded and carved with decorations typical of the rocaille and floral elements. The back has wavy and mixed sides. It culminates with a golden decoration with vegetable motifs centred by a rose. The armrests are moved and decorated with a carving in the shape of golden leaf, and are connected with the seat. The band under the seat moves, again presents a golden floral decoration. The legs, moved and arched, are sculpted proposing the typology of ornate rocaille with phytomorphic elements.
The pair of armchairs, recently lined in blue velvet, is of beautiful proportions, easily adaptable in any environment, both combined with antique furniture and contemporary furniture. The lustre of the gold, enhanced by the carvings and mouldings, strengthens the movement of the wooden parts, creating chromatic games and conferring great overall decorativeness.
The armchairs are in a good state of preservation and will soon undergo a conservative restoration.
