Our Indian ink wash, dated 1807, is located in the Rhône-Alpes region, and is typical of De Boissieu's fine works: realism and finesse of pictorial touch,
A draughtsman, engraver and painter, De Boissieu is considered one of the great artists of the 18th and early 19th centuries. His fluidity, precision and realism, reminiscent of the Dutch painters, made him a sought-after artist in his lifetime by major collections.
He was also a renowned engraver, nicknamed the French Rembrandt, and his works are preserved in museums the world over:
Musée du Louvre, Lyon, Grenoble, Nantes... ; New York , Washingthon ; Warsaw ; London ....
