The authenticity of the painting is confirmed by Denise Bazetoux (March 9, 2022).
This wonderfully fresh painting, in which the painter of light Henri Lebasque captured a scene in the hills of Dammartin sur Tigeaux plein air, as can still be observed today, was created around 1900. At that time, Lebasque lived in Lagny sur Marne, 20 kilometers away, and made trips to the surrounding area to translate his impressions into art. While some of the paintings created in Dammartin sur Tigeaux passed into the hands of local residents, Lebasque gave the painting offered here to his painter friend Alexis Axilette (1860 - 1931). It outlasted the decades in the family collection; it was inherited from generation to generation.
