In an Arcadian landscape, Paris has settled under a tree. The Trojan prince lives as a shepherd since his exile. Zeus had appointed him to act as the arbitrator, as the three female figures arranged around him are none other than the goddesses Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera. They argue over who deserves the golden apple, which was thrown by Eris, the goddess of discord, among the celebrating gods on Olympus, as she was the only one not invited. The apple, bearing the inscription "To the Fairest," is now being handed to one of the goddesses by Paris at this very moment. Aphrodite wins, as she promised Paris the love of the most beautiful woman in the world. However, since this most beautiful woman in the world, namely Helen, was already married, the "Abduction of Helen" was necessary, which is considered the trigger of the Trojan War.
