Auguste Serrure is trained at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts under Ferdinand de Braekeleer, Gustaaf Wappers and Mattheus Ignatius van Bree. Some of his comrades included Louis Van Kuyck, Edouard Hamman, Jozef Janssens de Varebeke and Sebastiaan Pittoors.
Like his teachers, he excelled in realistic historical scenes, gallant genre paintings and anecdotal depictions of the Antwerp bourgeoisie.
There is a calm and tranquility to his works, reminiscent of the paintings of Alfred Stevens.
He exhibited at the Antwerp Salon in 1861 where he received an award. He also participated in exhibitions at the Brussels Salon in 1863 and 1864, as well as in an exhibition in London in 1874.
His paintings are kept at the KMSKB in Brussels, in a museum in Louvain, at the Musée d'Orsay (Paris) with a inn scene, at the Nantes Museum and in a museum in Philadelphia (USA).
