Ancient and important Semnan rug, of Iranian origin, made of wool velvet on cotton backing.
Inspired by Persian miniatures of the 16th and 17th centuries from the Safavid period in Persia (under Shah Abbas, the Persian Louis XIV).
Characterized by a brick field with original decoration of rows of crenellated sky-blue reserves in the shape of floral bulbs inlaid with bouquets, plants, weeping willows and geometrically stylized flower compositions in polychrome. Triple borders, the main one midnight blue, with interlacing botehs and stylized dagger-like sprigs of flowers and foliage, reminiscent of Armenian Karabagh ghoradi carpets.
Observations: beautiful, original graphics. Rare colors of great softness and harmony.
