A pair of Charles X consoles

During the Empire period, a number of new furniture types emerge, such as the console or trumeau. These wall tables were usually placed between two windows. A pair of consoles from the early 19th century are quite rare. The dark swans carved from mahogany contrast beautifully with the light maple wood. The swan with wings is the symbol of innocence and fidelity, chosen by Napoleon's first wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais as her personal emblem. The original marble tops are of Belgian Saint Anna marble, which was fashionable at the time. Another nice detail is the original ormolu fittings on the plinth.
