When History rubs shoulders with Art. From August 26 to 29, 1867, Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie made an official trip to the north of France to commemorate the bicentenary of the annexation of the towns of Flanders to French territory. The sovereigns successively stopped in different towns, notably Arras, Lille, Dunkirk, Tourcoing, Roubaix and Amiens but also Henin sur Caujeul where they presented this beautiful monstrance as a gift. Such is the History that the ownership mark engraved on this beautiful piece reminds us.
