Modest Huys, one of the greatest Belgian painters of the 20th century, showcases his mastery of impressionism and luminism in the captivating painting titled "Autumn in Wakken." Born on October 25, 1874, in Zulte, and passing away in the same town on January 30, 1932, Huys left a mark on the art world with his evocative landscapes.
In "Autumn in Wakken," Huys transports us to a serene countryside scene enveloped in the golden glow of autumn. At the heart of the composition stands a majestic tree, its branches adorned with sparse leaves that shimmer with the hues of fall. Beside the tree, a winding dirt path leads the viewer's gaze towards quaint houses nestled in the distance, their roofs peeking out amidst the foliage.
To the left of the tree, a tranquil river meanders through the landscape, its gentle curves mirrored by patches of lush greenery where contented cows graze. The soft, diffused light of the setting sun bathes the entire scene in a warm embrace, casting a delicate yellow or orange glow that suffuses the landscape with the ethereal beauty of the golden hour.
