Venice, the beggars' canal
Oil painting on canvas
19th century
Canvas 60 x 45
Frame 85 x 70
Very good condition
This evocative Venetian canvas depicts the Rio dei Mendicanti, with the bridge of the same name and the church of San Lazzaro which overlooks the waters of the canal. It is a view made famous by the masterpieces of Canaletto who painted it in several of his works now kept at the Cà Rezzonico museum.
The author reinterprets it in a very fine manner in the 19th century, creating the same atmosphere as the 18th century works thanks to a very particular chromatic range, practically identical to the original works.
The canvas can certainly be attributed to one of the particularly gifted masters operating in Venice in the 19th century and stands out from many similar reproductions by its remarkable pictorial quality which gives it great charm and an excellent decorative effect.
A beautiful old gilded frame perfectly completes the work.
