Using ink and natural color pigments, we can distinguish numerous Tartar warriors hunting as well as falconers on horseback. On the rightmost panels, a lake and rice fields, a variety of wild birds, all against a background of mountains, waterfalls and trees in the style of the Kano school interspersed with clouds gold and gold spots.
These Tartars (moghols or Tatars) are identifiable by their dashing equestrian poses, their banners, prominent weapons and fur-trimmed hats are very distinctive. Some examples of this type of screens are preserved in Japanese and American collections.
