GUYON Maximilienne, Mme Goepp 1868-1903
Painter of genre scenes, portraits, flowers and fruit, watercolorist, illustrator.
Maximilienne Guyon (wife Goepp) was one of the few women artists of the late 19th century to have trained at the Académie Julian under some of the greatest: Joseph Nicolas Robert-Fleury, Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger.
She received a travel grant in 1894.
She exhibited at the Salon de Artistes Français de Paris from 1887 to 1903, winning a third-class medal in 1888.
She was part of the Woman's Building delegation of French women artists at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago.
She was a master of technique and detail.
In our painting, classical in style at first glance, we see a subtle landscape in the background, with a great deal of finesse and somewhat impressionistic overtones.
