Pair of period Transition corners stamped I.DUBOIS

Rare pairs of Transition period corner cabinets, stamped IDUBOIS for Jacques DUBOIS (received Master on September 5, 1742) and JME (Jurande des Maîtres Ébénistes).
Note the very careful work of the marquetry, curling rosewood in reserves of amaranth, double Greek fillet in green tinted wood on the doors.
Curved on the front, they open with a leaf revealing an interior shelf and rest on small arched feet raised with openwork bronze shoes.
Beautiful Rocaille trim in chiseled and gilded bronze on the uprights and on the apron.
An original ''Rance de Belgique'' marble, with double molding, covers these two pretty corners, elegantly matching their animated shape.
On each of these two corners are affixed two stamps: that of Jacques Dubois (IDUBOIS) received Master on September 5, 1742, and that of Nicolas-Alexandre LAPIE (N.A LAPIE) received Master on August 17, 1764. This practice is not trivial . It happened that a piece of furniture was re-stamped by the craftsman who put it up for sale.

Jacques Dubois, born in Pontoise around 1693, was one of the greatest Parisian cabinetmakers during the reign of Louis XV. A long-time free worker in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, he obtained his master's degree in 1742 at the age of forty-nine and pursued a brilliant career for nearly twenty years on rue de Charenton. Cabinetmaker to the King, he worked for the great nobility. His workshop on rue de Charenton was taken over by his son René in 1763, who continued his father's work for another twenty years, also enjoying a laudatory reputation.

Nicolas Alexandre Lapie, son of Nicolas Lapie, earthenware merchant in Faubourg Saint-Antoine, was born around 1730, he registered his master's degrees at the Châtelet in Paris in 1764. Less than eleven years later, on February 8, 1775, he died in his home rue de Charenton. Lapie had used the brand ''N-A-LAPIE'' to sign his works, an imprint of which can be seen in ink on the report of the seals affixed to his home after his death
