Polychromed pearl shell with the last judgement

An extraordinary and rare polychromed pearl shell carved with the last judgement.

Spanish Colonial, 18th century.

Measures 17.6 x 17cm.

The shell is decorated in its original polychrome paint and depicts Christ and God flanked by the Virgin and John the Baptist. Beneath the most holy figures at the top are the souls of the disciples and the pious and at the bottom the souls of the damned.
