French 17th & 18th centuries furniture and Arts
An important and beautiful wedding armoire in blond walnut, richly carved with flowers, acanthus leaves, vases and a heart with its arrows and quiver symbolizing love. The mantel is crowned by a curved "gendarme hat" cornice, deeply recessed with generous moldings. A finely sculpted pediment with scrolls, garlands, flowers and acanthus leaves completes the decor. The doors, meanwhile, are carved with a sinuous outline known as a "spiral", typical of Provencal furniture and characteristic of the Fourques style, near the town of Arles.
A series of six iron trims give perfect balance to the furniture's overall architecture and underline the great refinement of the decoration.
The crosspiece is also richly worked, as are the sides, finished with "snail" scrolled feet.
The lock, key and cremone bolt are original.
The interior features four shelves with five drawers.
Provencal furniture, Louis XV period, second half of the 18th century.
This piece comes from a mansion in Aix that has always belonged to the same family.
