Circle of Isaac de Moucheron (Amsterdam 1667 - 1744)
Italian garden with water features in a villa

Oil on canvas (49 x 65 cm. - In gilded frame 61 x 77 cm.)

All the details relating to this painting can be viewed at the following - LINK -

We are delighted to present this delightful composition, a sumptuous Italian-style garden, enriched by classical sculptures, fountains with water features and lush fenced flower beds, dotted with different groups of figures animating its paths: there are those who stroll romantically, those who observe the floral compositions and those who find an opportunity to entertain themselves with a group of gentlemen.

The work is certainly inspired by one of the many gardens that enriched the great Roman villas on the hills near Rome.

Thanks to the stylistic features of the work, unquestionably adhering to the Roman culture of the late 17th century/early 18th century, we are inclined to liken its hand to one of the Flemish painters who came to study in the Eternal City.

In particular, there are many iconographic and stylistic correspondences with a specific iconographic strand taken up by the Flemish painter Isaac de Moucheron (Amsterdam 1667 - 1744) during his stay in Rome.

Here the painter certainly had the opportunity to study the famous series of prints made by Giovanni Battista Falda (1643-1678), showing the most beautiful gardens of both the grand residences in the centre and the country houses of noble families. See the images in detail.

De Moucheron was very passionate about this subject, and even after his return to Amsterdam, having collected a large number of graphic models, he became a reference for the great bourgeois families who asked him to portray the gardens of their important residences.
As in our painting, his compositions were often enlivened by characters of evident Flemish inspiration.

STATE OF CONSERVATION: The painting is in a good state of preservation and is accompanied by a beautiful gilded frame.
