The Adoration Of The Magi, Antwerp school Circa 1600

Large Oil on panel from an Antwerp school, in a later light wood frame. In the center, the Virgin Mary, dressed in a deep blue cloak, holds the Child Jesus who receives the homage of the richly adorned Magi. One of them, kneeling, kisses the Child's hand in a gesture of veneration. The scene is populated by a dense crowd, with elegantly dressed figures, angels and servants, emphasizing the universality of the Christian message.
The background, punctuated by architecture and a dark sky, accentuates the drama of the scene.
The warm and contrasting chromatic palette is that of the Flemish school of the 16th and 17th centuries.
