Small censer in fine Satsuma earthenware in the shape of a cricket cage. Openwork work, technically complex, with always uncertain results, the fine bars of the cage have withstood the test of fire, then that of handling, without damage for more than one century. Decorated with stylized flowers and characters in colored enamels and gold relief. The item is in excellent condition, no repairs or repainting. Below the mark of Satsuma and the name Hattori who was one of the best ceramic painters of his time, allowing precise dating.
Collectors of Satsuma earthenware are very demanding regarding the state of conservation, so a small crack or the slightest chip is prohibitive, the earthenware is fragile and rare objects with complex shapes like this small incense burner have reached us in good condition.
