Old and Alsatian furniture and paintings
Riquewihr, a world-famous historic village in the Alsatian vineyard, is the scene of this typical scene of the harvest period in Alsace.
The Dolder tower of Riquewihr, an emblematic monument dating from the 13th century, an obligatory passage, gateway to the city, serves as a background to this atmosphere promoting the work of the vineyard, the men carry wooden baskets loaded with grapes, the customs and Alsatian traditions, are highlighted by Spindler, as well as the characteristics of the architecture with the presence of half-timbering, the frondling of vine foliage and bunches of grapes adorn the sky of the scene.
This large marquetry is signed Spindler, a workshop founded in the 19th century by Charles Spindler, artist, furniture designer, he was passionate about the traditions of Alsace and notably did incredible work of piecing together the costumes of his region, it is also the origin of the founding of the Alsatian Museum of Strasbourg. Paul Spindler took over the workshop located in Boersch in Alsace, then Jean-Charles, the founder's grandson.
The local woods used for this marquetry are numerous: maple, oak, ash, boxwood, fruit trees, the frame is in natural oak. Made in the second half of the 20th century, this extraordinary work is 119 cm high by 104 cm including the large frame. Signed lower right Spindler.
