18th century walnut inlaid courtesy box

Beautiful decoration inlaid with interlacing, the cabinetmaker notably used plum wood here, to create these ribbon patterns which demarcate reserves of walnut and crisscross on cartridges of dark wood. In the center of the top which has a convex shape, a compass rose.

These boxes were used to store mail, small collectibles or jewelry. They were often offered on the occasion of a commemoration, but also by the fiancé to his bride or on the occasion of a wedding.

A beautiful object, it will complement both a classic interior and a contemporary decoration. 18th century period
