Arita hard porcelain dish, Kakiemon kiln. Japan Edo period late 17th century around 1700. Decor of deer frolicking among maple leaves. The contours are drawn in black or iron red. The blue, green and yellow enamels are in slight relief while the red-orange is flat. The firing is perfect. It is visibly autumn, the maple leaves are there to make it clear, but the unusual excessive simplicity of the decor allows me to envisage, knowing the subtle spirit of the Japanese, that the artist may have thought of represent a first snow covering everything. Only the deer and the last fallen leaves being visible.
