REQUEST INFORMATION
Oil on canvas depicting a landscape in the Var. The artist chose the straw bales in the foreground to give the viewer a sense of time, that of the summer season, reinforced by the powerful treatment of light. The choice of the mountain and the path winding through the trees enabled him to approach his subject using a geometric treatment typical of the group of painters known as the "young painters". The shades of grey, yellow and green suggest the shape and depth of the space.

Remarks :
The period during which this picture was painted is that of maturity in the work of André Favory. Indeed, this View of La Cadière combines his characteristic treatment of landscapes lit by a golden light that sculpts the relief of the Var paths, the abundance of elements on the pictorial surface and the geometric treatment of the landscape. There is a Cézanne influence, particularly in the theme of the mountain and in the compositional scheme of the painting. The touches of vivid colour direct the landscape in the manner of André Derain, and reinforce the idea that the two men were close during this period of 1924-26.
