Pesaro – Ciircle of Girolamo LANFRANCO, c. 1550 - 1560

Diameter: 24.5 cm (Chips reattached at 12 o'clock, two cracks on reverse)
Inscription in blue on reverse: "Quando li assassini / Si gittarono alli / piedi di Scipione".

Low-stemmed majolica bowl with polychrome decoration depicting La Clémence de Scipion, a humanist theme praising this virtue. No other representation of this theme in majolica has been found.
