18th Furniture, country french furniture
Important oil on oval canvas depicting a richly dressed young woman with Fontanges-style hair and feathered hat. In her left hand, half extended, she holds a parrot (a mark of social status, but above all a Marian emblem and, as such, a symbol of purity and innocence) and in her right a basket of flowers and fruit. Behind her stand two figures, presumably her confessor and her stepmother.
The high-quality frame is in richly carved oak, gilded with gold leaf.
All from the Louis XIV period.
