Refined Rosewood coffee table, France Transition period (Louis XV / Louis XVI) circa 1770-1780. Signed by Fidelys Schey.
Fidelys Schey had been a master since 1777 ; he died on July 29, 1788. He was borne in the Duchy of Baden ; he came to Paris in the late 1760s. He made many Transition and Louis XVI styles pieces of furniture (very good quality), and enjoyed great notoriety which allowed him to work for the French crown. Our table is in excellent condition, varnished as new.
Provenance: bought in 1955 at the Parisian antiquarian Barra and then Subes collection at Chateau des Eveques in St. Pandelon (Landes), which featured a prestigious collection of 18th century pieces of furniture and objects carefully selected and gathered by demanding collectors family.
