A silver and hardstone desk seal set with a Renaissance intaglio of Julius Cesar.
The carnelian intaglio is Italian, 16th century.
The silver mounted hardstone seal dates to the 19th century.
The intaglio measures 2.2 x 1.9cm.
The seal measures 9cm high.
There is a chip to the lower left hand side of the stone.
Two comparable examples can be found in the catalogue of The Marlborough Gems, by John Boardman, figs. 207 and 456.
