Dalpayrat (1844-1910) - Large ceramic vase with vegetal handles Art Nouveau

Rare and exceptional Dalpayrat stoneware (the only known specimen to date), of an equally exceptional size, probably created in collaboration with sculptor Voisin Delacroix.

The collaboration with Voisin Delacroix was brief (1 year), as the sculptor died of pleurisy on April 2nd, 1993. Dalpayrat worked on the material and colors, while Delacroix focused on the forms, and they complemented each other in a rare way, as he used to say.

Among their creations were series of zoomorphic, anatomical, or visceral pieces, to which our presented work may belong. With a flared neck, a rounded body, and twin handles with vegetal branches, it features a beautiful dark red, brown, yellow, green, blue, and turquoise glaze, and is signed with an exploded grenade (in relief).

Provenance:

Jean François Dubois Gallery in Paris in 2000.
Former Swiss collection.
Decorator Francois Joseph Graf.
