Korea, Lacquered wood three-tier cabinet, 19th century.
This rare elm cabinet is composed of 3 levels resting on runner feet.
The fittings are in white metal alloy (nickel and brass).
The two lower thirds are made together with the base while the upper part constitutes an independent trunk.
The two lower levels each open with two doors surrounded by small fixed panels, while the upper part opens with two hinged doors each composed of two panels surmounted by four drawers.
The front of the cabinet is compartmentalized, each reserve being engraved and lacquered in red and black with a vegetal and animal decor.
This type of furniture was traditionally part of the dowry at the time of marriage. Examples in carved wood and lacquer are rare.
