Silver brooch, designed by Josef Hoffmann, produced by Wiener Werkstatte, 1912, marked
Josef Hoffmann, a member of the Vienna Secession, was both the co-founder and one of the most active designers of the Wiener Werkstätte. Much of the success of this Viennese art manufactory is due to his designs. In addition to a variety of articles of daily use, furniture and interior decoration, he also designed various fashion accessories, such as this brooch.
This elegant, silver chased brooch bears a relief-like foliage motif, which adapts organically to the shape of the object. Small dots around the motif complete the composition. The balanced decoration is framed by a finely crafted edge, a so-called “Perlschnur”. The brooch is marked on the back with “WW” and with the silver hallmark, the diana mark.
Back marked with "WW" and displaced 900 silver fine hallmark "Dianakopf"
