CATALOGUE NOTE
This highly interesting flower still life is signed with a monogram ‘P.v.L.’. Until now this mysterious painter remains anonymous and other pictures of his hand apparently are not know or recorded. Stylistically the present work displays influence of the later works by Balthasar van der Ast (ca. 1593/4-1657). Similarities to works by Abraham and Ambrosius II Bosschaert, who were predominately active in Utrecht the second quarter of the 17th century, and Jacob Marrel (ca. 1613/4-1681) possibly indicate the monogrammist PvL was active in Utrecht.
