This vase of considerable size has the particularity of being made in scagliola, an ancient technique which, using a very fine type of plaster obtained from "moonstone" mixed with color, allows to imitate the commesso of hard stones or precious marbles. In this case, the appearance of Alpine Green Marble is rendered with impressive realism. The vase is decorated with gilt bronze mounts, the special accent of which depicts two goat heads on the sides. Scagliola's three-dimensional decorative objects are relatively rare. This technique was mainly used to make imitation marble in the form of panels and columns, often for altars.
