Flemish Baroque painter of military subjects, landscapes, port landscapes, seascapes, engraver. Bonaventura Peeters is the brother of the painters Jan Peeters I, Gillis Peeters, and Catharina Peeters. He learned to paint from his father, who was a master in Antwerp and a member of the guild of Saint-Luc from 1607-1608. He himself became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke of Antwerp in 1634. He made many sea voyages, painted ships on rough seas, and calmer views of the Scheldt (European river) and the coastline with a subtle and nuanced palette.
