His painting is never soft nor false, Le Poittevin has an obvious taste for naturalism while remaining faithful to the manner of romanticism. He painted in the open air the coasts of the English Channel (he bought a house in Etretat) and in England.
He also represents rustic scenes inspired by Dutch painters during a trip to the Netherlands.
