Although the artist keeps a certain discretion with regard to history, he worked in Vienna around 1870 and seems to be French. On the back of our portrait, a mark on the canvas proves its Austrian origin.
Our model is well known in the world of opera as it is the Italian singer Adelina Patti whose time of glory is around the date of our portrait, that is to say around 1865-70. Trained in New York where she spent her early years with her musician parents, she then quickly pursued her career in London, then in Paris taking on the great roles of Carmen, Gioconda, Luisa Miller, etc. She performed on stage until the end of the 19th century. She performed on stage until 1906 at the age of 60.
