The Nicolo intaglio is a light pale mottled blue layer over a black ground.
Mounted in high carat gold in a classic rubover setting leading to broad flared shoulders and a plain band, typical to the late 18th century - early 19th century.
Similarities can be drawn from an example in the Victoria and Albert Museum - a Nicolo Intaglio ring, accession number; 1126-1864. See last image.
