A specimen agate rivière necklace.
English, the specimens and their respective gold settings date to the first half of the 19th century, the necklace conversion is a contemporary adaptation.
Formed of fifteen graduated agate specimens in their original Georgian and early Victorian settings.
The necklace measures 45cm in length and is made from 9 carat rose gold.
The pear shaped drop measures 5 x 3.1cm and the clasp measures 1.5 x 1.3cm.
The agates display an impressive variety of banded, variegated and plumed examples - ranging in rich deep russet to light fawn hues. Each panel is set in the traditional “piecrust” or cut down collet settings typical to the late Georgian or Early Victorian period. The large pearl shaped central drop agate can be removed, to permit the wearer versatility.
