Our research directs us to Jacopo di Paolo Marieschi (1711; 1791), son and pupil of Michele Marieschi (1696; 1743) and Gasparo Diziani (1689; 1767). This view was painted by many artists of the 18th century, including the most famous: Canaletto, Bellotto... with a curiosity here because we should see the top of a bell tower appear above the roofs on the right of the painting. Also note the pentiments at the level of the chimneys. Our painting can be compared to other works by the artist, in particular the Grand Canal with the Saint Simeone Church of the Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge) and the Rialto with the Palace of the Camerlengues sold by Maison Ferri in 1991.
