Offered by Cristina Ortega & Michel Dermigny
Rare set of 6 enamelled stoneware sake bottles, calligraphy describing the name of the merchant and the place, hand painted in dark brown to light brown. The hand made manufacture of these bottles gives them somewhat irregular shapes.
The neck, tightened, made possible to attach a cord to it in order to bring the bottle back to the merchant who could fill it again. These bottles were closed with a simple cork stopper.
Japan, late 19th century.
About 26.5 x 13cm
We have several other bottles, of the same size or larger, sold individually.
