Le Vengeur was a French warship in service from 1766 to 1794. It was a 3rd rank vessel carrying 74 cannons on 2 decks.
She participated in the American War of Independence but is best known for her loss in the battle of Prairial in 1794 in circumstances that were glorified by revolutionary propaganda.
Ferdinand Victor Perrot 1808- 1841 is a French painter born in Paimboeuf and died in St Petersburg.
Painter of the Navy, he is the pupil of Theodore Gaudin.
A recognized painter of seascapes, he exhibited about thirty works at the Salon between 1834 and 1844 and was ranked among the great seafarers of the 19th century.
The Russian Imperial family welcomed him to St Petrsburg in 1840, he died suddenly in 1841 at the age of 33.
He likes to represent the light and the violence of tormented skies.
A romantic vision transmitted by his master Gaudin accompanied by a concern for detail and accuracy in the representation of buildings and ships.
