Black marble from Belgium and ormolu.
Rome, late 18th century.
These picturesque objects particularly delighted the rich aristocrats during their Grand Tour, they could bring them back as a souvenir of the antiques they have encountered during their trip. The sculptors did not hesitate to reuse ancient marble, as evidenced by the underside of the base of our bathtub which bears Latin inscriptions.
