Pierre NOGARET (1718-1771), received Master carpenter in Lyon in June 1745.
Pierre Nogaret, famous master in provincial seats, stamped "Nogaret A Lyon". This Parisian chose to settle in Lyon. A seat by his hand can be recognized at a glance: a subtle interplay of curves and counter-curves, a typical, very flared armrest, a whiplash console, a set of mouldings. Balance and nervousness, elegance and movement, are the terms that come up most often to define his style. Finally, irreproachable quality in construction, in the choice of species and the care given to the connecting elements ensure that its productions stand the test of time well. The influence of Tilliard and Cresson, one for the line, the other for the sculpture, proves that Nogaret mastered the know-how of the Parisian masters.

Our opinion:
The set of seats that we are presenting is the most successful example of Pierre Nogaret's creativity.
All the ingredients that contributed to its success are present on these seats: very curved and fiddled backrest in acanthus staples, armrests in strong whiplash, finely carved florets in a tight-grained walnut and different on each seat.
It is the adaptation of the Parisian cabriolet in the Lyonnaise fashion with a slight Provençal touch (amplitude of the forms, profusion of sculpture, walnut, etc.), which explains the success of Pierre Nogaret not only in Lyon but also throughout the south. from France.
