Selection of furniture from the 16th to the 19th century
Pair of torchiere angels in gilded and polychromed wood.
From the Italian school, these two curly-haired seraphim rest on plinths richly sculpted with clouds, windings and cherubic faces.
Sculpted in the Italian Renaissance tradition of contrapposto, the attitude of the angels is dynamic and lively, they seem to be advancing towards us.
Abundantly gilded, the tunics with sculpted pleats are extended by hectic capes reminiscent of flames. These capes are a counterpart to the large outstretched wings.
Italian work of large dimensions, 18th century period. Some incomplete retouching.
