Bookcase glazed from top to bottom, opening to 2 leaves with geomeric decorations of lighter nets.
The cornice with a double projection is decorated with a brass ring as well as the baseboard.
It was under Louis XIV that the first "book cabinets" appeared, as they were then called.
They will very quickly become popular, when the book becomes a "product of current consumption.
Our bookcase is made of amaranth veneer.
This species of wood, quite rare for the time, comes from South America, often from Brazil.
Amaranth is a precious purple wood with veins that are not very visible and whose color tends to darken once the wood is used.
