A pair of grand tour alabaster sculptures of Canova’s lions.
The lions are based on the original carrara marble sculptures in Rome, created by Antonio Canova (1757 - 1822) in 1792 for the tomb of Pope Clement XIII.
Italian, mid 19th century.
Each lion measures 20 x 9 x 8cm.
Provenance: Sotheby’s Chester, 31st July 1980, lot 233.
