Portrait of a young Royalist Oil on canvas, 29 x 23 inches

PROVENANCE
- London, Charles Woollett & Sons, 59-61 Wigmore street, 1963, as attributed to Willem von Honthorst
- Private collection, New York, until October 2016

BIBLIOGRAPHIE
- The Connoisseur, August 1963 (page 16)

Gerard was the director and artistic leader of the business cooperation of the brothers; Willem was the production chief who did much of the daily coordination in the workshop with its many assistants

Our painting was known since a long time as attributed to Willem von Honthorst ; Willem’s work is not well defined but the manner is so close to what is known to Van Honsthorst’s brothers, that it is therefore reasonable to attribute this painting at the Von Honsthorst's studio.
