"Crucified Christ"

Wooden sculpture in walnut with traces of original polychromy
Dimensions (cm): h. 105

This magnificent "Corpus Christi", with its dramatic expressive power and the extraordinary details of its anatomy, conveys a unique emotion.

The sensation to the touch, like the visual one, is truly remarkable with the perception of a body still alive.

Analyzing the sculpture from a compositional point of view, the accentuation of the muscles of the torso, and the strong marking of the features of the face of this living Christ, stylistically differentiate it from the more common creations that depict a slender body, at times almost threadlike.

Almost always Christ is shown dead, with his face turned, emaciated, resigned and defeated in accepting his sacrifice.

In this case he is depicted alive, deliberately strong and powerful, with his gaze, albeit filled with pain, still proud and aware of his Divine power.

It is the image of Christ Pantocrator, Lord Almighty and ruler of the world.

The artist thus has the opportunity to express his sculptural abilities in a more evident way with a work of incredible vigor where the plastic result reaches the highest levels.

The sculpture is in excellent condition, with the wooden essence still very healthy and not attacked by wood parasites.

The lack of arms gives a greater artistic and less religious connotation to this magnificent work.
