Paintings, sculptures and art objects from the 15th to the 17th century
Suite by Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593)
Portrait of Winter, Italian School, 17th century.
Oil on canvas (70x83cm) in an orange marble inlaid style frame.
Our winter portrait faces in the tradition of the 4 seasons series to spring and autumn to summer.
Painted in the seventeenth century on canvas, very freely without taking the versions of the Louvre or Vienna.
Arcimboldo is no longer to be presented but his vegetal work is typical of mannerism.
Very much taken up in his time and in the 17th century, he was rediscovered at the beginning of the 20th century by the surrealists.
Today the rarity of these pieces interests both lovers of painting or those of Wunderkammern, cabinets of art and curiosities.
