About 1839
A student of Remond, Elisabeth Collin married the painter Simeon Fort probably in 1849.
Elisabeth exhibited at the Paris Salon under her maiden name between 1835 and 1848 and then under her married name from 1850 to 1865.
She distinguished herself by sending small, very fine paintings representing various landscapes brought back from her travels with, chronologically, views of the surroundings of Paris, Switzerland, the Dauphiné and Piedmont.
This work, signed Collin and titled on the stretcher Etude de Beêt, also has an inscription in German. This suggests that this oil on paper was painted during his travels in German-speaking Switzerland (between Bern and Fribourg) in 1839.
