Hendrick STAETS (Haarlem 1600/1626-1659/1679 Leyde)
Dutch ships in a stormy sea Oil on canvas, 84 x 118 cm
Hendrick Staets was active in Haarlem and Leiden in the mid-seventeenth century and specialised in painting stormy seas. His works are easily recognised by the feathery brushstrokes he uses to depict the foaming sea. Our painting is characteristic of Staet’s works and the largest format known.
